| Re dedication of the Hahnemann Memorial in Washington, DC |
Homeopathy is a different system of medicine that was developed by
a man named Samuel Hahnemann, born 1755. He developed this system after being frustrated, then appalled at the way people
and illnesses were treated in his time. His system views the whole person and their complete symptom picture. It does
not treat diseases but helps the sick body overcome them. The homeopathic philosophy is based on Paracelsus' idea that Like
Cures Like. Homeopathic counseling begins with an in depth personal interview.
The purpose of this interview is to get a detailed view of the individual
and their complaint and to understand how this person’s ailments affect them. (See The Interview.) Based on the information
gathered in this interview, the homeopath chooses a medicine or remedy that is most similar to the patient's state.
The many remedies from which one is selected, are highly diluted and taken sparingly, one at a time. The goal is
to use the least amount of substance that will have the most beneficial effect. A correctly selected remedy will support
the individuals’ own system in such a way that vitality and well-being increase and homeostatic balance returns with
increased strength to dispel dis-ease and illness.
